How to make a homemade dry shampoo

DIY dry shampoo:

Is your hair frequently goes limp or oily from the day 2 after shampooing?

Then turn on to dry shampoo, this is an absolute quick fix for excess oiliness while pumping up the voluminous to the hair.

Washing your hair every single day turns it weak and also rinses away the beneficial oils that keep them supple and healthy.

Hence, avoid shampooing daily instead use dry shampoo to lock the freshness of your hair for two to three more days.

What is dry shampoo?

Dry shampoo is a dry substance that cleans your hair without the use of water.

It works by absorbing oil from your scalp and hair which makes it look and feel freshly washed again.

It is not meant to take the place of regularly washing your hair with water, but to serve as a means of lengthening the time between washes.

It comes in the form of a liquid, cream, powder, and a spray as well.

Uses of dry shampoo:

Dry shampoo can be used in between washes if you're trying to lengthen the life of your blow-out, It is handy in various situations for example:-

When you're dashing to the office without time for a shower, or even in times when water isn't readily available, and it freshens up your hair after the workout etc...

It highly helps to eliminate odour, gives volume, adds texture and soothe an irritated scalp.

If you are looking for a natural alternative to commercial dry shampoos, which often contains many chemicals to aid the absorbing process, you can make your own homemade dry shampoo.

Here, I'm going to share an easy, inexpensive and yet effective 2 DIY recipes of the dry shampoo.

1. Powdered dry shampoo:

Ingredients:

1tbs of cocoa powder
1tbs of oatmeal powder
1tbs of corn flour
5 to 6 drops of essential oil (optional)

Method and application:

Grind and sieve the oatmeal, mix well with other two ingredients and store it in an airtight container.

Sprinkle some on the roots of the hair, try to cover the entire head.

Wait for a few minutes so that the product absorbs the oil.

Now, comb your hair to disperse it throughout the whole head.

 Voila! you're all done!

2. Dry shampoo in a spray:

Ingredients:

1tbs of corn flour
1tsp of cocoa powder
1/2tsp of oatmeal powder
1/2 lime juice
5 to 6 drops of tea tree essential oil (optional)
1/2 cup of warm water

Method and application:

Mix everything in the warm water and pour it in a spray bottle.

Shake the bottle and spray on the roots of your hair, ensure that your whole head gets the product.

Flip your head upside down and gently massage your scalp with your fingertips, if the spray still feels damp, set a blow dryer on the lowest coolest setting and aim it at your scalp.

Comb your hair nicely to disperse the product. That's it!! you're good to go!

Dry shampoo will only help to absorb excess oil and won't necessarily clean out the dirt though it might mask it with a pretty scent of the essential oil used in it.

Say goodbye to your greasy hair by using this homemade dry shampoo.

Notes:

  • Dry shampoo can only be applied to dry hair.
  • Don't rub it in immediately after spraying it on, give it a few minutes to absorb the oil at your scalp.
